    • Richard "Rick" Alexander Sweet M.D.

    Richard (Rick) Alexander Sweet, MD, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend and surgeon passed away peacefully surrounded by his family following a heroic battle with ALS on Tuesday, July 9, 2024.

    He was born April 10, 1951 in Ashland, Kentucky, to Mavis Alexander Sweet and WWII veteran, Francis (Dick) William Sweet.

    Rick was a graduate of Paul Blazer Ashland High School where he set several swimming records and received a swimming scholarship from University of Kentucky (UK).

    During his undergraduate years, he broke the UK 200-yard butterfly record at the 1971 SEC Championship. Rick coached the Big Spring Country Club swim team from 1972-74. After three years of undergraduate education, he was accepted into medical school at UK.

    He continued his orthopedic residency training at University of Louisville, followed by the Otto Aufranc Fellowship training at the New England Baptist Hospital in Boston, MA in the field of joi
